I always tend to think deeply about this topic when I consume media, so I wanted to make a list of results I disagree with, because it interests me! I'll likely be updating this through reblogs if my interest doesn't wane, I'll make a note in the replies when I do!

Kill la Kill- Man it's 2013 again and I'm seeing tumblr make powerpoints about how klk is deeply feminist and it's actually a super deep critique of harassment that Ryuko has to wear the ugliest outfit ever and Westerners Don't Understand (person making this argument is inevitably a Westerner).

Yeah, based on the part I've seen and everything I've heard, hard disagree. But I have not seen the whole thing, just those three, I do know the part I saw included rape jokes a plenty, a weird victim-blamey take on "not being ashamed" of being forced into a skimpy outfit and how if you're bothered by men ogling you that's your weakness, and a vagina wedgie. I'm not as mad about it as I was back then,and I can appreciate the show has it's good points later on. Not having watched it also means my knowledge is incomplete. However, I have listened to really in depth breakdowns of the series (mainly Anifem's podcast), so I know exactly what happens, and yeah, the treatment of women doesn't impress me. I'm on the dislike side, (holding back on hates because again, haven't seen all of it)

Madoka- I'd definitely go more towards mixed feelings honestly (especially if we're counting Rebellion) but I get the people who say "likes".

Yuri is my Job- it loves women, it loves messy women, it loves women who love women, it loves them so much, idk why it got a sizeable no vote. People who only watched the first ep? People who think yuri is "bad"?

Mob Psycho 100- Someone in the notes says "accidentally likes women" and that's the only answer in the "likes women" area I'll accept. It has 10 million prominent male characters and like three prominent female characters. ONE really really obviously has a hard time imagining women as powerful or action heroes. (this is reflected in One Punch Man too) (One Punch Man actively hates women and queer people though, Mob is infinitely better) Only one who ever gets to fight and play with the boys, and she's a low level mook, and we have to spend 75% percent of her limited screentime on whether it's actually okay to fight women, with her winning argument being "Well you're literally a child so I guess it evens out" (???) The little girl with the evil dolls gets even less screentime.

I do like that the series examines how Mob idealized Takane and how people not caring about the real her made her tired, as well as how it allowed her to reject Mob and was basically a lesson in the importance of accepting rejection. But her screentime is also really limited, and I feel like we could have dove into her a lot more. Tome is a wonderful weird girl and I liked her little arc, and I hear she gets more in the Reigen manga, but still not a TON of screentime, and even with her there are a couple jabs about how she doesn't "count" as a girl due to not acting traditionally feminine we're clearly supposed to find funny. Emi is...there I guess. There's that sweet scene with the writer girl, and the bully girl, but they're like, not reoccurring at all, as evidenced by how I can't remember their names.

And uh. the girls school episode.

Anyway. Hot take but I don't think "they're barely in the story but when they are two of them are treated pretty decently and have some depth, though there is some weird stuff about whether women can even fight men or whatever" really counts as "likes women". I'd go more mixed feelings.

Life is Strange-out of the two options I chose dislikes, but my feelings are a lot closer to "mixed feelings". I go into why here.

Gushing Over Magical Girls- lol. lmao even. The anime about middle school girls who look 8 sexually assaulting other middle school girls DEFINITELY doesn't like women. I go into more detail here.

Cowboy Bebop: Mixed feelings, probably. I chose dislikes because yes, Faye and Ed are great (you could def read Ed as nb though), but Faye also is repeatedly damsel in distress'd and treated as incompetent in her field when I don't think she should be, she can be a failgirl without being the sole woman in the action side of the group and also the least capable (there's also That Scene in the movie). also i just. it's fine that she's sexy but I hate her outfit. give her something nicer looking, it's so ugly. But my main reason for a dislike vote is the treatment of Julia. Girl is a textbook example of fridging. They really gave her so little. But yeah I could see mixed feelings.

Also do you remember that one scene during Faye's tragic backstory where she's hospitalized and the camera requires us to look down her super (painful looking? like idk how she's not screaming about it) squished boobs during this tense and important moment god that took me out. whenever anyone acts like Faye always owns her sexiness and the camera never does anything I remember that scene.

Ranma 1/2: I've seen read a good chunk of it, and this result is...surprising. Maybe by the standards of 80's manga though, who knows.

Mixed Feelings

Dracula- IIII definitely think it dislikes women, sorry guys. Mina is a great character and you do have to take it in the context of when it was written. But there are surely contemporaries of Bram Stoker that wouldn't have randomly gone out of their way to scoff at the "New Woman". Not to mention again, really random sidebars about how men are so much smarter and cooler and women should be grateful to them. I could go on about Lucy and how Mina is treated and whether that's a critique of sexism or just playing into it and how it's so open to interpretation but I'll stop here.

also the book is hugely anti- Romani, immigrant etc and I think that ties into disliking women since some women are those Romani and immigrants

It really really felt like a case where a lot of people in the Drac Daily tag just wanted it to be super feminist because they liked it (you can like things without having to make them feminist! it's fine!), and the way they scoffed at feminist scholars who had "surface level readings" of the text (aka they dared to say it was sexist) still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The Lego Movie: dislikes women. what are y'all on. Even it's own sequel calls it out for disliking women. Wildstyle is basically the only woman with real characterization and she's the purest concentration of "hypercompetent woman must play second fiddle to Average Male loser who is the one who actually saves the world and also she falls in love with him because of course she does'. Then Wonder Woman got one line (in literally the first theatrical move she got to even be in) and Superman and Batman a lot of screen time.

Scott Pilgrim- Don't get this result, I'd put it at likes or mixed feelings? It's literally about how Scott has weird issues with women where he doesn't see them as to full people they are, and it calls him out on that hard. The whole sixth volume is how he made up a damsel in distress scenario for Kim and always took her for granted, how he put all the blame on Envy for the end of their relationship when he played a huge role in that, Knives finally getting over him, moving on, and telling him he needs to grow up a little (highlighting how his grossness towards her was him refusing to accept that he was an adult now, and that he was horrible to her, and yes he does apologize), and accepting that he and Ramona are both messed up people and she's just as flawed as he is, taking down the pedestal he put her on. And having Ramona triumphantly confront her abuser. Scott acknowledges he has a lot in common with Gideon, the supervillain!

Roxy is a sticking point, the whole 'it was a phase thing' and her and Ramona's relationshipbeing unexplored was annoying (fixed in Takes Off) but even she had some moments of pathos and was definitely the (Ramona's) ex the story seemed to sympathize with the most.

I dunno. this seems like a tumblr lacks media literacy thing again. Did you think the narrative agrees with Scott. Did you only watch the movie.

Succession- I'd go more mixed feelings? Dislikes is fine, I think it doesn't have enough women and often privileges male characters over them, but sometimes it's examination of the sexism Shiv faces is really incisive, and she's a complex character. But she should have gotten that abortion.

Watchmen: hates women actually. Pretty much anything written by Alan Moore does.

Persona 4: I think it hates women actually. But dislike is fine too.

Merlin: Everything I've heard about the show puts in in the hates camp rather than dislikes, but i never watched it (I did watch this video on it, and the bootlicking is out of this world if it's accurate) so I can't really comment

Hey, I was wondering if you can do a request. It's a headcanon reaction to Silver, Sebek, Jade, and Jack finding out about female mc/yuu/yn who does competitive weightlifting, and the struggles that females in that sports field go through. Such as finding a trainer who is willing to train females, getting harassed by the trainer or others working out, males in the gym not letting you use equipment because you're female, toxic masculinity in gyms, getting rejected because they don't think you're feminine enough, or getting weird looks and getting put down because "females aren't supposed to work on their muscles or try to be stronger". I've been feeling a bit down precisely because of these struggles, especially the last one. I would like it if mc is already their girlfriend, and just felt self-cautious about telling them. Gender variance and it's link with neurodivergency

Okay Tumblr, let's talk gender (I know, your favorite topic) my preface on why this topic matters to me is: I'm autistic ( diagnosed moderate to severe autism) I'm nonbinary trans ( in a way that most non-autistic people don't understand and actually look down on)  and I went to college for gender study ( Mostly for intersex studies but a lot of my research was around non-binary and trans identities) I will be using the term autism as pants when I have experience with however when ADHD is part of the study I will use ND which stands for neurodivergent and yes this is going to be about xenogenders and neopronouns.

autism can affect gender the same way autism can affect literally every part of an identity. a big thing about having autism is the fact that it completely can change how you view personhood and time and object permanence and gender and literally all types of socially constructed ideas. let me also say hear that just because Society creates and enforces an idea does it mean that it doesn't exist to all people it just me that there is no nature law saying that it's real and the “rules” for these ideas can change and delete and create as time and Society evolves and changes.  gender is one of those constructs.

Now I'll take it by you reading this you know what transgender people are  (if you don't understand what a trans person is send me an ask and I'll type you up a pretty little essay lmao,  or Google it but that's a scary thought sense literally any Source or website can come up on Google including biased websites so be careful I guess LOL) anyway to be super basic trans people are anyone who doesn't identify as the gender they were assigned at Birth (yes that includes non-binary people I could do a whole nother essay about that shit how y'all keep spreading trying to separate non-binary people from the trans umbrella)  some people don't like to use the label and that is totally fine by the way.

now autistic people to view the world in a way differently than allistic (neurotypical) ppl do.  we don't take everything people teach us at 100% fact and we tend to question everything and demand proof and evidence for things before we can set it as a fact in our brains. This leads to why a lot of autistic people are atheist (although a lot of religions and this is not bashing on religious people at all I am actually a Jewish convert)  this questioning leads to a lot of social constructs being ignored or not understood At All by a lot of autistic people and personally I think that's a good thing.  allistics take everything their parents and teachers and schools teach them as fact until someone else says something and then they pick which ones to believe. autistic people study and research and learn about a topic before forming an opinion and while this may lead to them studying and believing very biased material and spitting it out as fact it can also lead them to try and Discover it is real by themselves.

because of this autistic people are more question their gender or not fall in a binary way at all as the concept of gender makes no sense to a lot of us. “ if gender is a construct then autistic people who are less aware of social norms are less likely to develop a typical gender identity”

no really look: “ children and teens with autism spectrum disorder ASD or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder ADHD  are much more likely to express a wish to be the opposite sex compared with their typical developing peers” That was posted in 2014. we have been saying this stuff forever but no one wants to listen. the thing is gender variance (being not cisgender or at least questioning it)  has always been closely hand-in-hand with autistic and ADHD people I'm even the doctor who did that study understood right away that it all made sense the whole time: “ Dr. Strang said they were initially surprised to find an overrepresentation of gender variance among children with ADHD. However, they later realized that prior studies have shown increased levels of disruptive behavior and other behavioral problems among young people with gender variance”  SEE YOURE NOT WEIRD YOURE JUST YOU AND YOURE NOT ALONE IN THIS!!

5% autistic people who did the study were trans or questioning. it was also equal between the Sexes fun fact. that may not seem like a lot till you realize that the national average is only .7% that's literally over 700% higher than the national average. That's so many! and that's just in America.

 in Holland there was a study in 2010 “ nearly 8% of the more than 200 Children and adolescents referred to a clinic for gender dysphoria also came up positive on a assessment for ASD” they weren't even testing for ADHD so the numbers could be even higher!

now I want to talk about a  certain section of the trans umbrella that a lot of autistic people fall under called the non-binary umbrella. non-binary means anything that isn't just male or just female. it is not one third gender and non-binary doesn't mean that you don't have a gender. just clearing that up since cis people keep spreading that. non-binary is an umbrella term for any of the infinite genders you could use or create. now this is where I'm going to lose a bunch of you and that's okay because you don't have to understand our brains or emotions To respect us as real people. not many allistics can understand how we see and think and relate to things and that's okay you don't have to understand everything but just reading about this could be so much closer to respecting us for Who We Are from you've ever been and that's better than being against us just for existing.

now you might have heard of my Mutual Lars who was harassed  by transmeds for using the term Autigender (I was going to link them but if it gets traction I don't want them to get any hate)  since a lot of people roll their eyes at that  and treated them disgustingly for using a term that 100% applied correctly.  Autigender  is described as " a neurogender which can only be understood in the context of being autistic or when one's autism greatly affects one's gender or how one experiences gender. Autigender is not autism as a gender, but rather is a gender that is so heavily influenced by autism that one's autism and one's experience of gender cannot be unlinked.” Now tell me that doesn't sound a lot like this entire essay I've been working on with full sources…..

xenogenders and neopronouns are a big argument point on whether or not people “believe” in non binary genders but a big part of those genders is that they originated from ND communities and are ways that we can try to describe what gender means us in a way that cis or even allistic trans people just can't comprehend or ever understand. Same with MOGAI genders or sexualities. A lot of these are created as a way to somehow describe an indescribable relationship with gender that is so personal you really cant explain it to anyone who isnt literally the same as you.

Even in studies done with trans autistic people a large amount of them dont even fall on a yes or no of having a gender at all and fall in some weird inbetween where you KINDA have a gender but its not a gender in the sense that others say it is but its also too much of a gender so say youre agender. And this is the kind of stuff that confuses allistic trans people and makes them think nonbinary genders are making stuff up for attention, which isnt true at all we just cant explain what it feels like to BE a trans autistic person to anyone who doesnt ALREADY know how it feels.

In this study out of the ppl questioned almost HALF of the autistic trans individuals had a “Sense of identity revolving around interests” meaning their gender and identity was more based off what they liked rather than boy or girl. That makes ppl with stuff like vampgender or pupgender make a lot more sense now doesnt it? We see that even in the study: “My sense of identity is fluid, just as my sense of gender is fluid […] The only constant identity that runs through my life as a thread is ‘dancer.’ This is more important to me than gender, name or any other identifying features… even more important than mother. I wouldn't admit that in the NT world as when I have, I have been corrected (after all Mother is supposed to be my primary identification, right?!) but I feel that I can admit that here. (Taylor)” and an agreement from another saying “Mine is Artist. Thank you, Taylor. (Jessie)” now dont you think if they grew up with terms like artistgender or dancergender they would just YOINK those up right away????

In fact “An absence of a sense of gender or being unsure of how their gender should “feel” was another common report” because as ive said before in this post AUTISTIC PEOPLE DONT SEE GENDER THE WAY ALLISTIC PEOPLE SEE IT. therefore we wont use the same terms or have the same identities nor could we explain it to anyone who doesnt already understand or question the same way! Participants even offered up quotes such as “As a child and even now, I don't ‘feel’ like a gender, I feel like myself and for the most part I am constantly trying to figure out what that means for me (Betty)” and also “I don't feel like a particular gender I'm not even sure what a gender should feel like (Helen)”

Now i know this isnt going to change everyones minds on this stuff but i can only hope that it at least helped people feel like theyre not broken and not alone in their feelings about this. You dont have to follow allistic rules. You dont have to stop searching inside for who you really wanna be. And you dont have to pick or choose terms forever because just as you grow and evolve so may your terms. Its okay to not know what or who you are and its okay to identify as nonhuman things or as your interests because what you love and what you do is a big part of who you are and shapes you everyday. Its not a bad thing! Just please everyone, treat ppl with respect and if you dont understand something that doesnt make it bad or wrong it just means its not for you. And thats okay.

Little Fires Everywhere: My Opinions

(I found this as a draft and I made this towards the beginning of May)

I can't believe that I'll have to say this, but to stop the rainstorm of boohoos and 'how dare you say that about my favorite show', but this whole post is my opinion. I'm not stating facts. It's my OPINION. Okay? Okay, let's move on. Also - Strong language warning. As of writing this on Thursday, April 30th, 2020, I'm on the second episode of #LittleFiresEverywhere after a friend of mine gave me their Hulu log in (Thanks, Max). As of right now, I only truly care about is Pearl, Izzy, and Moody.

The other two siblings seem like dicks to just be dicks, I want to like Mia and Elena, but they seem every involved in themselves a lot of the time. And yes, moms should be their own persons, but the reason why I don't like them right now is that Mia didn't seem to think about staying somewhere because her daughter really wanted to, until Pearl yelled at her. I get that there's a complicated situation there that we're only scratching the surface of. And Elena just seems like one of those moms that need their kids to be perfect. To be model citizens, to wear pastels, to be basically what most people see as the picture-perfect American family, and I hate it. Not to mention how she clearly favors her older two kids over her younger two kids. And then, of course, Lexi flat out STOLE Pearl's letter about her discrimination about wanting to go to her proper math class.

It might've been how I was raised, but I was always taught to be who you are despite what other people want you to be (laugh if you want, but I was raised by young Millennial parents, so give me a break). It just seems like Elena is trying to suppress who Izzy is but anyway she can because she's scared of how different her youngest is compared to her other kids.

Despite me not liking our main characters, I'll balance it out by saying what I do like about Mia and Elena. First, Mia.

I like how Mia is so very caring towards people. Like how she offers advice to Elena when she's being harassed at school to stand up for herself, and how she cares about a co-worker that she barely even knows, and asks her what's wrong, and hears her out once the time is better.

I like how firm Elena is about her beliefs in things, and how she wants the best for her children but doesn't seem to know the best way to go about it. And despite some of her strange ways of going about it, it is clear that she does love her kids in her own way.

The show itself is really good. The characters, despite me not liking a lot of them, are well developed and I feel like I could meet them in real life.

Episode Three has more promise to it.

Adding Lexie's boyfriend, Brian, to the mix of people that I like in this show, because he pointed out how fucked up it was that Lexie stole Pearl's letter for her essay.

Watching Mia do her art is making me want to get back into art too if I'm being honest. It makes me miss it.

Anyway, I still dislike Lexie, but I love the fact that Izzy has a dress with pockets, but I think she looked pretty without getting all traditionally dressed up. With that being said, the green dress is really pretty.

Okay, something's happening at the baby shower and I feel my anxiety rising as each cup of tea is being split. (I also love the subtle relationship between Izzy and Moody. Reminds me a lot of my brother and me when we were still taking turns hating each other).

Mia is going to get into trouble for sneaking into the baby's bedroom, I can feel it. I can feel so much trouble stirring up everywhere.

Mia, why did you tell Bebe? Mirabelle/May Ling is adopted, she gave up her baby for a good reason, legally, the baby isn't hers anymore... Your heart is in the right place, but this was a bad idea. This was such a bad idea.

Is Moody not going to tell Pearl that he clearly as feelings for her??? Or is Pearl going to have to find out the hard way?

I love the mirroring between Elena and Mia towards the very end of the episode.

Episode Four:

I get why Mia did what she did, but that was a little messed up, for everyone involved. It wasn't helpful towards Bebe who was still grieving over giving up her child, and it wasn't helpful to the couple that has the baby and is nearly through with adopting her. In the previews for this episode, I would like to make a prediction to see how right I am.

Mia was a surrogate mother for a couple, and instead of giving up Pearl, she left with Pearl and has been on the run ever since, and that's the real reason why she and Pearl have never stayed in the same place for very long, and that's why she was so reluctant on staying in a seemingly perfect community, and part of the reason why she freaked out when Pearl was escorted home by what looked like a police officer at the time (that and the fact that it was the 90s, and there was terrible discrimination between cops and blacks, more than there is now). I don't want to be right, I don't want this to be a Finding Carter situation, but it would make sense.

I also really like how Izzy and Pearl are kind of opposites of each other, despite how they were raised, and who they were raised by.

Also, for all the moms out there that are scared that their kids are going to be addicted to sex after they do it the one time, and Lexie's line; "It's like when you do it once, it's all you can think about". From a 21-year-old who can very clearly remember what it's like being in high school, trust me, by the time they're like 14 or 15, they're already thinking about it a lot, in a good way or bad way, that doesn't mean that they're doing it, it's just being a teenager. (Sorry for the rant, I just know that Karens and Lindas will watch this show, hear that line and freak out even more than they already are).

"Being gay is a very rare thing". Elena, my girl, buddy, you're so sheltered from sexuality that it makes me laugh.

I really want to know what Mia's dreams mean. Hopefully, there are video essays on it somewhere that I can look at after the episode is over.

Oh my God, why is there always that one guy in these kinds of stories that always give the advice of "Just treat her like shit" or "Be an asshole the whole time, and she'll defiantly fall for you". First of all, no. Second of all, just be honest, the worst that'll happen is she'll say that she's not interested, and as long as you take it gracefully, nothing else will happen. Damn.

Also, am I the only one that finds it weird that Elena and Bill have a schedule for their sex life? Like who schedule's sex when they're not actively trying to have a baby, or avoid that, or they're old and need to make sure that no one's bones are gonna be ackey that day. I can't be the only one that finds that weird.

Elena is playing so dirty in something she should not be even touching right now, my Lord woman.

Why is Mia going through and taking a bunch of stuff from Elena's house, that's really weird?

Elena and Mia are really strange ladies, everyone's thinking about it.

I know that there is still a thing about adoptive parents vs biological parents, and I have no experience with adoptive parents, and I cannot imagine the pain that Bebe is going through, or Linda. But Bebe gave up her baby, whether or not she wanted to, and obviously is mourning that choice, but it was a choice she made. I'm on Linda's side with this, Mirabelle is Linda's baby. Bebe is the birth mother, yes, but Linda is her mom. There's a difference.

TRIP IS DOING HIS BROTHER SO DIRTY RIGHT NOW. TRIP, STOP MACKING ON YOUR BROTHER'S CRUSH WTF.

Episode Five

That flashback kind of just explained why Elena schedules sex with her husband I mean...

I know snooping through things is bad, and I know that Izzy doesn't know that Mia snooped through and even took certain things from her house, but it's kind of hypocritical of Mia to be upset when Izzy went through her stuff when not even an episode ago, Mia was taking stuff fro their rooms.

That is fucked up. It shouldn't matter whether or not Mia is regnant, she deserves to go to her brother's funeral. There'll be more questions about where she is, instead of why she's pregnant.

I mean, if Mia didn't stick herself in the middle of something she shouldn't have, and if Elena didn't try to bribe Bebe on behalf of Linda and her husband (I can't remember his name for the life of me) then it either wouldn't have been this bad or never happened at all.
